Every character has combos that should always connect, so if you're having difficulty with one series of attacks, switch it up. This sounds so obvious, but is also in light of the difficulty some players have with their combos not connecting as the game progresses. You can almost always follow up that block with a combo or grab of your own.ħ) Learn at least one reliable killer combo. One of the most reliable circumstances to block is after hitting one enemy 3-4 times with a combo string, then turning around to block the enemy that's trying to attack from behind. Blocking is best used as a quick reaction to an attack you anticipate rather than a defensive strategy. Paul's jumping punch is a thing of beauty.Ħ) Don't turtle. Some moves are better than others at this, but everyone should have a running or jumping attack that causes immediate knockdown. I almost never harass downed opponents unless I'm playing specific characters or there are no standing opponents nearby. The best way to engage a group of enemies is to knock down a few and dispatch the others afterward. Outside of these situations, don't bother.ĥ) Knockdown = Crowd Control. This is probably the easiest way to "git gud."Ĥ) There are only 3 situtations when you should attempt a grab: After a successful strike (a hit connects and deals damage), after a successful block (have to be quick), or when an enemy is standing up. I personally favor jumping attacks because you can stay insanely mobile, and you can follow-up a hit with anything (even Rudy's punch). You have to learn what works with each character, but this is how you avoid being blocked or dodged. There are a ton of combos and specials that move you as well, and these are the best to commit to for positioning (things like Alex's bicycle kick, Paul's dodge's, or Provie's anything).ģ) The best initiators are jumping attacks and running attacks. It's better to hit an enemy once or twice and move than it is to try a full-combo and get hit from behind. 99% of my movement is running.Ģ) On the same note as #1, keep moving. With practice, you can even step outside of enemy attacks like they do and dart back in for a counter attack. Each character's walking speed varies with AGI, but running speed is always the same. Let's approach everything in the spirit of "how can we make this work," even if it's difficult or wonky to do so.ġ) Always be running. Please refrain from any negative comments about the value of any moves or characters here.
